How a Dietitian Can Help with Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a diagnosis by exclusion and is influenced by a variety of factors including certain foods, lifestyle, mood and stress levels.

The symptoms of IBS may include:

  • Fluctuating abdominal pain and discomfort

  • Gas and bloating

  • Altered bowel habits (constipation, diarrhoea or both)

The causes of symptoms vary greatly. We work with you to identify the underlying cause of your gut challenges. This may include small changes to your diet or implementing a trial diet such as the low FODMAP diet.

We Can Help With

  • Understanding the connection between your IBS symptoms and food

  • Identifying any trigger foods

  • Identifying a dose of foods that don't lead to symptoms

  • Creating a plan to meet your nutritional needs and correcting nutritional inadequacies

  • Assisting with body composition changes
