HOW A DIETITIAN CAN HELP WITH FOOD CHEMICAL INTOLERANCE

People with food chemical intolerances or food chemical sensitivity react to chemicals that occur naturally or added to food.

There are many different symptoms that people may experience including:

  • Hives (or rashes) and/ or swellings

  • Headaches and migraine

  • Stomach and/ or bowel upsets

  • Sinus and/ or breathing problems

Chemicals that can cause food chemical sensitivity include:

  • Salicylates

  • Amines

  • Glutamates

  • Preservatives

  • Artificial food colours

  • Flavour enhancers e.g. MSG
